Firefighter Of The Year

We are proud to announce that Firefighter/Paramedic Diwan De la Torre has been named Cathedral City Fire & EMS’s Firefighter of the Year! This prestigious honor is awarded to those who go above and beyond in serving our community, mentoring new firefighters, and upholding the highest standards of emergency services.

Diwan’s journey is one of perseverance, dedication, and leadership. A first-generation Mexican American, he was born and raised right here in Cathedral City. His path to the fire service wasn’t conventional. Facing challenges that could have led him in a different direction, he instead chose to serve his community. With the support of his family, he pursued his dream, completing EMT school, paramedic training, and the fire academy, ultimately earning a spot in the Cathedral City Fire & EMS family.

Since joining the department, Diwan has proven himself as a leader and mentor, training new firefighters, educating the community, and leading emergency preparedness programs like Stop the Bleed and CERT. As a co-founder of the Cathedral City Firefighter Cadet Program, he is shaping the next generation of firefighters, ensuring a brighter future for those who follow in his footsteps.

This award is more than just a recognition—it is a full-circle moment. From missing out on an award in the fifth grade due to circumstances beyond his control to standing here today as Firefighter of the Year, Diwan’s story is an inspiration to us all.

Congratulations, Firefighter/Paramedic Diwan De la Torre! Your commitment to service, mentorship, and community makes Cathedral City a better, safer place. We are honored to have you as part of our team!
